LINGO Word Logs take what we know about robust word learning and provide a way for children to record their learning and have their own word log as a reference point.

The children are supported to identify words in class they are unsure of. They then write down the word in their word log and work through simple activities to help them learn the word. They note down where they heard the word, what it looks and sounds like and what it means. They then create an example sentence that will  help them remember the word.

Children can be supported to work through this process as much or little as they need. For those words that are particularly tricky to learn or remember, there are also ‘word maps’ within the word log booklet, where children can go into a little more detail to help them remember the words.

    • A set of 10 word log booklets (either A4 or A5)
    • Space in each of the booklets to log over 50 words

There is an A4 and an A5 version of the word logs as we find it works effectively for children of all ages in KS2 and 3, with older students preferring the smaller more discrete version. Feedback from children is very positive as the word log booklets give them a tangible way to record and practice new vocabulary
