Why it matters

SLCN affects Engagement
Children with language difficulties struggle to understand what is being asked of them, so they find it difficult to engage and participate. Investing in improving speech and language can improve engagement across all subjects, with teachers reporting children are more confident and engaged following intervention.
It's hidden

Less than half of children with SLCN are identified. They're either missed completely or misidentified. Identification is the first step to helping. In fact, Children with SLCN tell us one of the most important things for them is when adults understand the nature of their difficulties.

Language affects Literacy

Spoken language is the foundation of the written word; if you can't say it, you can't write it. So when you invest in improving language, literacy improves with it. A focus on spoken language can improve text comprehension in the long term.

The impact on attainment
Speech and Language difficulties impact on learning and attainment, with children with SLCN attaining less well than most other children with SEND. Research shows oral language approaches escalates academic progress by 6 months.

Our Approach

Collaborative

Whether we're consulting at a whole-school level or providing weekly therapy, our approach is always collaborative. We get to know your school, children, staff, families and communities and work with you to find a solution that's right for your school.

Tailored

Every Trust, School and Teacher is different, so we take a tailored approach. We're not here to rewrite your curriculum or change all your practises. Instead, we build on what you have and help to fill the gaps.

Flexible

Having worked with schools for over three decades we understand that at lot can change in a school year. We're responsive to any changes you have and will move things around based on your needs.
